French Foreign Legion
I spent fifteen years of my life in the FFL.

These pages are only my personal souvenirs and is not an FFL information site.

Just a few photos of some of the best and most faithful friends you can ever have.

LEGIO PATRIA NOSTRA

Relaxing in the jungle in RCA during our mission there in 1987

Our 1 REC cavalry recce platoon was temporarily reconverted to a light infantry platoon and we where mainly involved in jungle warfare training program.

However in the end of 1989 we where also used in the operation of regaining control of the Commores archipelago after the foiled “coup d’etat” by the famous mercenary Bob Denard.

We are relaxing after some jungle training in Mayotte sometimes in 1989

1 REC / 1 Escadron ready for a desert attack.

12 times 105mm canons at 110km/h in the desert was more than enough to convince the Iraqis that they where in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Somalia 1993. As platoon commander, working with the Indian Army Aviation.

The French army doesn't provide much for the FFL

so we make our own provisions.

This is a beast that one of the Legionnaires found in his sleeping bag

Desert warrior.

P1 / ER / 13 DBLE on patrol in a joint operation with the AND.

We are in the middle of nowhere patrolling the Djiboutian Eritrean border.

With often around 50 degrees Celsius in the shade, this is where man and machine is put to an endurance test.

Djibouti 1994 ERC 90 in position on the border.

This is a platoon commander’s paradise (or nightmare). Hundreds of kilometres from your Company commander (and his logistics) everything is in your hands and the survival of your platoon really depends on you and your men.

Sarajevo 1994

After so many years with operations in Africa and the Middle-East the climat in Sarajevo was quite a change (even for a Norwegian)

Sarajevo 1995

Summer is slowly comming but Sarajevo is still a cold place even in late may.

This is on the airport with my friend Terje, he was one of the few Norwegians that accepted to stay in Sarajevo during the

winter 1994-95
